A macroscopic model of the compaction process during compression molding of carbon fiber sheet molding compounds

چکیده
Modeling the compressive behavior of carbon fiber sheet molding compounds (CF-SMC) during processing can be a difficult task. This is due to pronounced porosity SMC materials, which cannot adequately reproduced by currently available compressibility models (also called pvT models). Consequently, macroscopic non-isothermal compression model was developed in this study, easy evaluate and suitable for numerical simulations. Furthermore, dilatometer measure an industrial CF-SMC material. The calibrated with measured data implemented commercially used simulation software. analytical accurately describes compaction its applicability simulations has been demonstrated.

Volumetrical Characterization of Sheet Molding Compounds
For a comprehensive study of Sheet Molding Compound (SMC) surfaces, topographical data obtained by chromatic confocal imaging were submitted systematically for the development of a profile model to understand the formation of cavities on the surface. In order to qualify SMC surfaces and to predict their coatability, a characterization of cavities is applied. To quantify the effect of surface mo...

The Numerical Analysis and Validation of Compression Molding Process
In this work, the simulation results from a program developed for the three-dimensional analysis of compression molding of thermoset composites were compared to the experimental results of an actual molded thermoset sample. The program predicts the flow pattern, fiber orientation, fiber length distribution, curing of the resin and mechanical properties. The comparison between simulation and exp...
